Association leaders in Washington, D.C., this week for American Associations Day have a full plate of topics to discuss with congressional offices. Issues include employee pay and benefits: ASAE says nonprofit organizations would be hurt by a proposed rule that would make many more employees eligible for overtime wages, and by the "Cadillac tax" on generous health plans.
Before advocates hit the Hill Thursday, ASAE will send out a crowd-amplified tweet via Thunderclap at 9 a.m. with the hashtag #StrongerByAssociation.
The National Apartment Association has a goal of reaching all 535 congressional offices during its Capitol Conference this week. Lobby Day is Wednesday.
Several health and medical societies will be holding Washington, D.C., events. The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine will conduct advocacy training and Capitol Hill visits Wednesday prior to the start of its annual conference. Other medical groups holding lobbying events include the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
The American Public Power Association also hits the Hill Wednesday for its annual Legislative Rally. Meanwhile, the League of American Bicyclists promotes pedal power this week during its National Bike Summit.
Also, more than 1,500 local elected officials are in Washington for the Congressional Cities Conference.
